It was our dog Hamphrey's birthday over the weekend, so we took him to the park and to Petsmart to pick out some special treats. Here he is resting after a lap around the pond:
Do you celebrate pet birthdays? I don't go all out (we've never thrown a party for him), but I like to do a little something to acknowledge that my dog is getting older. He's 9 this year, and it's wild to think we've almost spent a decade together! I miss the puppy years when he would dart around the house like wildfire, but it's nice to relax with him now too.
On the writing front, I'm still hard at work on my vampire novel. There's baking, maybe a bed and breakfast... I'm trying to find a happy medium between silly and serious, and wanting this one to veer more urban fantasy than cozy mystery (though I love cozy mystery books too).
In summer, I'll have another poetry book out, and I look forward to sharing more about it closer to the release date. This one is about belonging, resilience, and self-love. Quite a different theme than Wreathbound! I'm glad to be writing something with happier vibes.
Speaking of summer, is it warming up where you live? It's been getting hotter every day here, and I even wore shorts today. Summer is on the way!

Happy Wednesday! When I'm writing, everything's a mess. Binders on the floor, papers dragged out of who knows where and spread out for reference, not to mention the fact that dishes pile up for a bit longer than I'd like. The trade off is that I'm in the zone and productive, but dang, sometimes the messiness can really get to me (or my husband, who is a total neat freak).
