When I'm writing, everything's a mess. Binders on the floor, papers dragged out of who knows where and spread out for reference, not to mention the fact that dishes pile up for a bit longer than I'd like. The trade off is that I'm in the zone and productive, but dang, sometimes the messiness can really get to me (or my husband, who is a total neat freak).
PS: this photo only shows one binder, and isn't an accurate representation of my writing mess! (I do love those YouTube ambient sound videos though, especially ones with rain, coffee shops, or fantasy ambience.)
This past weekend my family and I went to our first renaissance faire together, which was fun! Lots of festival-goers wore costumes, we ate fun festival foods (like funnel cake, the best festival food!), and I even rode an elephant with my kids. Here's my proof:
To be honest, the idea of being so high up on an elephant made me nervous, especially with my little ones. However, rocking back and forth as the elephant walked was more relaxing than each of us expected. Surprisingly, it was peaceful.
It was an interesting experience, and not one I expected to have at a renaissance festival, but I'm glad I said yes when my kid asked if we could. And fortunately, everyone had a good time.
Have you ridden an elephant? Or a camel or horse?
On the writing front, I'm doing a bit of a rewrite on my vampire novel after realizing I've been writing more of a paranormal women's fiction novel than urban fantasy. This change feels so much more natural for the characters, plot, and setting, and so I'm kicking myself for not seeing it earlier.
Right now I have this book set to release in June, but if this rewrite takes longer then I'll happily push it back. I'd rather publish a better book than rush to finish up a project that just isn't ready.
As I make more progress on this rewrite, I'll share snippets, character bios, and more. But for now I'll keep it to myself while I get things fixed up. :)
How are you doing this week? Are you excited for summer? It's rainy here this week, but I'm just waiting for the weather to heat up so I can head to the beach. I'm ready for summer!

Could Be Something GoodWinnie’s starting to think she has a target on her back: her mom is pestering her to sign up for the MCAT’s again, even though she’s already a midwife. Her bothersome ex is at it, too, blowing up her phone with texts and calls, asking her to attend the wedding of a mutual acquaintance when he knows she wants nothing to do with him. And to top it all off, the cute new resident at the hospital–who’s way too young for her–seems to think they should be friends. How’s a midwife supposed to catch babies with all this drama?

ChosenFor an Owensen Witch, any day could be your last. A deal made a century ago continues to hunt us all. Why should I forfeit my life for something I never agreed to? As far as I knew I wasn’t special at all. Neveah Owensen, curator. I don’t really use my magic. I avoid it at all costs, especially since it’s been going haywire lately. I just want to get married and start my life with the man I love. But I guess I am more than meets the eye. No happily ever after for me. “The devil has come to collect, and he decided he wants me.” I will do whatever I have to do to avoid being dragged into the Underworld. But who knows, as much as I want to run, I may not have a choice. I’ve been chosen and if not me then who else?

Happy Sunday! Oops! I thought this newsletter was sent out on Wednesday like it was supposed to, but it turns out it was stuck in my drafts. Apologies for sending this out a bit late, but I do have some great books to share with you. Since I'm adding in an apology, I wanted to add in a question: Did you watch Eurovision? If so, which song was your favorite? Reply and let me know. I liked the songs from Finland, Estonia, Austria, and Moldova the best. Here’s a photo from this month. My family...
Happy Wednesday! It was our dog Hamphrey's birthday over the weekend, so we took him to the park and to Petsmart to pick out some special treats. Here he is resting after a lap around the pond: Do you celebrate pet birthdays? I don't go all out (we've never thrown a party for him), but I like to do a little something to acknowledge that my dog is getting older. He's 9 this year, and it's wild to think we've almost spent a decade together! I miss the puppy years when he would dart around the...
